Justin Gedak was born in Langley British Columbia Canada on September, 25th 1982, and grew up in the Fraser Valley and Greater Vancouver.
His series of gothic fantasy digital portrait paintings are themed around the concept of individuals who have gone through times of trouble, and survived to be stronger for it. Characters who've endured the worst of life, but still managed to maintain and enhance their sense of strength, beauty, and honor. Warriors who refuse defeat.
The creation process for is digital artwork consists of cutting up and piecing together numerous photos, and then painting hundreds of digital paint layers over top--often scratching parts off as he goes--using Corel Painter, Adobe Photoshop, and a Wacom Intuos Pro tablet.
In between his portraits, Justin also works on various surrealism and landscape paintings. The landscapes of wild grassy fields, quiet cedar trees, and old abandoned castles are meant to be like little windows into another more ancient world. The darker surreal themed works of strange faces, mysterious creatures, and sometimes complex scenes are representations of the inner workings of the subconscious mind. The things that are felt internally, but that can’t be explained in words.
His oil paintings are made from three colors: titanium white, raw umber, and ivory black. Usually in one to two layers, and then varnished in a mix of Gamvar, cold wax medium, and Gamsol to create a satin finish.
Justin currently resides in Greater Vancouver Canada, and has sold his artwork internationally across 24 different countries.
